After a grueling 5 game day, the sun, mugginess and fatigue finally got the best of our team to climax an incredible day at the California State Games 10U Championship games in Mira Mesa. Prior to losing to LaVerne in the battle for the Gold Medal, the TierraCanyon 10U All-Stars fought their way out of the loser bracket by defeating teams from Fresno, San Jose, and Los Gatos. They also won a rematch against Central California's Atascadero, who defeated our All-Stars just the day before. This time the TC Toxic prevailed with a 5-1 victory. The tandem pitching of the two Megan's (SIngley and Poole) were amazing throughout the day. Brooke Russell, who caught 6 games in 24 hours, was awesome at the plate and behind the plate, hitting, running and throwing out runners. She also did a straight steal of home twice. Brooke along with teammate Megan SIngley were named Co-MVP's for their performances in the tournament and All-Star season

To win the right to play in the championship game, TC had to beat a tough team representing Orange County (OC). The OC team took an early 2-0 lead which looked good enough to win, until a 5th inning 3 run homer by Lily Canfield put TC on top. OC came back with a run in the bottom of the 5th to tie and and regulation time ran out after the 6th inning, leading to an International Tie Breaker (ITB) situation. TC escaped OC's tie breaker threat in the top of the inning with some amazing defense by Amber Wozniak and Cassidy Ferrell behind Megan Poole's hard pitching performance. The Tierrasanta crowd stood up and cheered wildly on every 2-strike pitch, adding extra motivation to Megan's already stellar closer work. In the bottom of the ITB, TC quickly loaded the bases. Darby Tibbetts then responded by looping an 0-1 pitch behind second base scoring the winning run and thrilling an already fired up team and pro TC crowd. Quite an All-Star day, quite an All-Star Tournament and a great end to quite an All Star season.

Congratulations to the TierraCanyon 10U All-STars for winning the Silver Medal at the California State Games 2008.
