All 4 Divisions of TierraCanyon Softball Advanced to the California State Games!
For the first time in TierraCanyon Girls Fastpitch Softball history, all four age
divisions advanced in post season all star play beyond the San Diego District
Championship that was played the weekend of June 19 - 21. On July 19, 2009 the
8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U TierraCanyon Girls Fastpitch Softball all star teams were
invited to participate in the California State Games at either the sectional or
regional championship tournament for their age bracket. The four teams and their
families joined together to celebrate as a community during the opening ceremonies
of the California State Games, which included the teams parading onto the field
at Qualcomm Stadium, and participating in a ceremony which included entertainment,
a speech by beach volleyball Olympic Medalist Kerri Walsh, and a torch lighting
ceremony that concluded with fireworks.
The 8U all star team (TC Red Hot Chili Peppers)
had an unprecedented season that marked
the first time a TierraCanyon Girls Fastpitch Softball 8U team placed 1st in their
division at districts and became the Southern California District Champions.
culminated an amazing 18-2-1 run,
winning 1st place in the Corky Russell Memorial Tournament, the Clairemont Memorial
Classic Tournament, the Scripps Ranch Tournament, and the UC del Sol Tournament,
all BEFORE the district championship! This amazing run continued through the district
championship, allowing only 2 runs the entire tournament, while bringing in their
own impressive 25 runs, and clearly earning the title of Southern California District
Champions. Being undefeated in districts, and taking on regional rivals like Clairemont,
UC del Sol, Alpine, and Imperial Valley, the Red Hot Chili Peppers soared ahead to
participate in the California State Games, where each girl was able to proudly
showcase their starting position at the state level.
The 10U all star team, TC Venom,
played in five tournaments leading up to the district championship. They took
2nd place in the Clairemont tournament, and then went undefeated in the Ramona tournament
to take home 1st place trophies. At the district championship the Venom played against
teams they had seen throughout the post season, including UC del Sol, Ramona and Alpine.
The team advanced to the semifinals, where they lost to Ramona, finishing in 4th place.
However, their 4th place showing secured them a spot in the Pacific Coast "C" Regional
Championship, part of the California State Games. The TC Venom
went on to win the Pacific Coast "C" Regional Championship!
The 12U team, the TC Heat, was comprised of girls from the four 2009 Majors teams.
The team played in numerous tournaments
leading up to the district championship, where they honed their skills as individuals and
as a team. Leading up to the finals in the district championship, the Heat defeated
teams from Imperial Valley and Fallbrook. The team took their first loss in the semifinal
round against Alpine and went on to the finals to play Alpine again. The team walked away
from the tournament with a silver medal, qualifying for the State Sectional Tournament.
After facing district competitors in late June, the 14U all star team advanced to the
District "C" State Tournament. In a series of 3 games, the 14U team scored an impressive
number of runs, executed a perfectly-timed double play to end an inning, and the pitching
was nearly flawless. This 14U team
made a brilliant showing at the state
tournament, earning the respect of their competitors. The spirit of the game of softball
remains with these girls, the majority of which will be moving onto Serra High School next
year to embark on high school sports. Good luck girls, you made TierraCanyon extremely proud!!!!
